This quiet and quite remote valley leads off NE from the opening to the Valle del Genil. It's two initial villages of Dúdar & Quentar are both quaint & rural in appearances. Whilst the city of Granada lies close at hand, the valley maintains a distinct ambience of tranquility due primarily to the almost complete lack of any property development that is rampant in other areas.
The village of Quentar lies just 10kms from Granada and its neighbouring village, Dúdar, a slightly closer 8kms. The ski resort is just 30mins drive away.
The valley basin is fertile owing to the "Aguas Blancas" river and the Quentar dam that controls its flow. Higher up the mountain slopes on either side the vegetation disipates to a dryer and sparcer scene of shrubs and bushes and a patchwork of farmland olive groves & grape vines.
The area is a particular attraction for cyclists owing to the quiet and accesible roads. Mountain biking enthusiasts will find great pleasure in exploring the criss-cross mesh of dirt tracks venturing off in all directions. |
